Publications Overview

The Patents Office produces a number of publications, the official Patents Office Journal (on a fortnightly basis), an Annual Report and has produced a number of information booklets on Patents, Trade Marks, Designs & Copyright. In addition, the Patents Office makes available the Written Grounds of decisions in Inter-partes hearings relating to Trade Marks.


Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005 (SI 279 of 2005) Statement of Policy on Release of Data

(a) Individual Inspections of the Patent Office’s Patent, Trade Mark and Design registers can be accessed free of charge via the Patents Office web search facilities. Specific items of information on a particular patent or patent application (under Rule 64(3) of the 1992 Patents Rules) and in relation to a trade mark application or a registered trade mark (under Rule 60 of the Trade Mark rules 1996) can be sought provided the request is made in writing in advance and on payment of the prescribed fee of €6.00 per item of information sought.

(b) Certified copies of documents or extracts from the Patents, Trade Marks and Design Registers are available upon request from the Patent Office on payment of the prescribed fee.

Certified Copies
Patents€3 per certified copy or extract plus €0.60 per page of the document comprising the copy or extract.
Designs€3 per certified copy or extract plus €0.60 per page of the document comprising the copy or extract.
Trade MarksOn request under Rule 48 for a certified copy or extract of any entry in the Register: €25

(c) Documentation Documents filed with the Patent Office under existing Intellectual Property legislation are available for public inspection at the Patents Office, Information Centre in Kilkenny and copies of these documents can be obtained at a cost of 30 cent per page.

(d) Supply of Bulk Data Rule 77 of the Trade Mark Rules 1996 provides for the granting of a licence authorising the use of part or all of the computerised Trade Mark database which is open to public inspection. The fee for this service has been fixed at a once off connection fee of €2,500 and €625 per download thereafter.
