Liam McCarthy and John O'Callaghan, from Kinsale Community School, who were awarded the Patents Office Award and ultimately were overall winners at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition in January 2009. Liam and John then went on to represent Ireland in the European Young Scientist
competition in Paris in September and won one of the top three prizes.
John and Liam came up with a cheap and efficient method of detecting infection in cows milk using ordinary washing-up liquid.
