The
Vienna Classification
is the internationally agreed system of
categorising the figurative elements of marks. Unlike the Nice
Classification, which relates to the goods and/or services to which a
mark is applied in the course of trade, the Vienna Classification
relates to the mark itself and is relevant only to those trade marks
that are, or consist of, figurative images. The essential purpose of
the Vienna Classification is to provide a system of comparing
figurative trade marks for similarity and it is particularly useful in
the context of automated searching using computer programmes.
