Methods of Payment

The following methods of payment of fees will be accepted by the Irish Patents Office:

  • Post Office Money Orders.
  • Bank Drafts, Company cheques or Personal cheques. These should be made payable to the Controller of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks or to the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, and drawn on an Irish bank. In the case of payments by cheque, it may be necessary in the case of certain services to await clearance of the cheque before the matter to which it related can be transacted.
  • Cash. Please note that cash should not be sent by post. Cash payments should only be made in person at the Kilkenny office.
  • Payment of the fee for the registration of a trade mark, the fee for the grant of a patent and renewal fees for Patents, Registered Trade Marks and Designs which have been registered under the Industrial Designs Act 2001 may be paid by credit card or debit card on-line through the on-line payment facility. Master Card and Visa credit cards and Irish Laser debit cards will be accepted for the purpose of making the payments referred to above on-line.


Fees should only be paid in EURO.
