The legislation governing the functions of the Patents Office consists of primary legislation, Acts and secondary legislation, Rules. These Statutory Instruments in respect of Patents and Trade Marks are known as and referred to as Rules and in respect of 2001 Designs Act are known as Regulations. These Rules and Regulations prescribed the manner in which the relevant provisions of the Acts are to be implemented.
