When an applicant (from a country that is party to the Paris Convention or a member state of the World Trade Organisation) files an application for registration of a design in another member country, the applicant, for the purpose of registering the same design in Ireland, enjoys a right of priority for 6 months after the filing date of the first application. In order to claim a priority, the following information should be included in the appropriate section of the application form:
- The Priority date claimed, the name of the state, country, territory or area and the filing number.
Where a right to priority is claimed, a certificate by the competent national authority verifying the filing date and country of filing, the representation of the design and its filing number should be filed with the application for registration or within 3 months of the filing thereof.
