The Controller has certain statutory functions under the
Copyright and Related Rights Act, 2000
(No. 28 of 2000). These functions are concerned with the registration of copyright licensing bodies, references and applications relating to licensing schemes operated by licensing bodies and the resolution of disputes regarding the payment of royalty amounts arising in the area of public performance of sound recordings.
Any body operating as a licensing body within the meaning specified in Section 38 or 149 of the Act is obliged to register as a licensing body in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 17 of the Act, and to remain registered for so long as it continues to operate in this capacity.
In accordance with Section 175 of the Copyright and Related Rights Act, 2000 and the
Copyright and Related Rights (Register of Copyright Licensing Bodies) Regulations, 2002 (S.I. No. 463 of 2002) the Controller maintains a Register of Copyright Licensing Bodies. The Controller has, to date, registered the following bodies in the Register of Copyright Licensing Bodies.

The Registers of Copyright Licensing Bodies are paper based and are retained at the Patents Office in Kilkenny and may be inspected during opening hours of 9.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. Monday - Friday at a fee of €5.00.
The Controller on receipt of a request and the prescribed fee of €0.30 per page will issue an uncertified reprographic copy of any entry in the Register. On receipt of a request and on payment of a fee of €10 in addition of the €0.30 per page to be copied, the Controller will supply a reprographic copy of any entry in the Register, or any part of such an entry, certified by him to be a true copy of the original.
